While we never imagined opening our doors serving to-go beers and stocking grocery coolers, we always knew that supporting non-profits, doing good things in our community was part of the plan. We’ve had to pivot on a lot of things, but have not wavered in supporting organizations where our team is personally invested. Shirley’s Angels is one of those organizations and a partner you’ll likely hear more about in 2020. We’ll kick off our support by donating half of the LostAsana Yoga proceeds to them this week. Meet Shirley’s Angels…
Read MoreIf this interview would’ve happened six months ago, we’d be talking about hard cider and kombucha. Instead, here we are talking about the state of the craft brewing industry in the midst of a global pandemic.
Richard Greene is the executive director of the NC Brewer’s Guild whose mission is to position North Carolina as a leader among the best craft beer states in the nation. Greene’s job is three-fold: to promote the industry; be an advocate for craft breweries and provide education about our industry.
Where does a crisis like the coronavirus fit into NCBG’s advocacy plan? Well, crisis’s like this you simply don’t plan for, but you do lean on emergency preparedness and a clear honest voice of what’s happening. That’s exactly what we’ve seen from Greene and the organization that brewers in this state look to as a guidepost.

We’d like to share our conversation with Aaron Gore, certified cicerone and founder of Fresh Pitch Beverage Consulting. He’s been helping craft breweries succeed for more than a decade. His observations are worth passing along to our collaborative community.
What has this time has taught us? The craft beer industry is creative, resilient and certainly not for quitters.
Here’s what Aaron had to say…
Read MoreAs we continue to introduce you to our Basecamp beers, here’s an introduction to Trek Porter. This beer was inspired by Meriweather Lewis and William Clark, who set out on an expedition into the unknown with the goal of discovering a Northwest passage – a waterway connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean. Over the following two years, their band traveled nearly 8000 miles while enduring challenges including intense weather, hostile Native Americans, continual episodes of food scarcity, and even a foray by the Spanish from New Mexico attempting to imprison their team. Learn more about their trek and the beer that this expedition inspired…

The SS Warrimoo was an Australian/New Zealand passenger ship that was launched in 1892 and served as both a passenger liner between Canada and Australia and later as a troop transport in World War 1. In May of 1918, six months before the conflict ended, the Warrimoo met its demise after colliding with the French Warship Catapulte. As the force of the collision reverberated through the ships, several depth charges slid off their racks and subsequently detonated. Both ships were…
Read MoreBrewers and beer aficionados can wax eloquent on the topic of sessionable beers, but for new lovers of craft brews or newly of-age beer drinkers, it may be a head scratcher. Who better to explain the term, expand on the topic and talk about how sessionable beers fit into Lost Worlds’ lineup than our Head Brewer, David Gonzalez (DG).
Read MoreBeer collabs begin brewing in a variety of ways. In the case of our recent collab with Rock Hill Brewing Company, it started with a conversation. As brewers do, the two head brewers, Jerod Jones of RHBC and our own Head Brewer, DG, started talking about the brewing equipment. As luck would have it, RHBC has a very similar Brew House to the one we are planning -- both direct-fire Deutsche systems. Jerod graciously invited the Lost Worlds crew to spend a day brewing their Bad Mama Jama Imperial Brown Ale and learn the system

Read MoreWe have had a blast with this beer collaboration! When we sat down with our old friends at Catawba Brewing, both their Founder, Billy Pyatt, and their Head Brewer, Dave Cobb, They asked us what kind of beer we were thinking of brewing. With our interest in more sessionable styles, and thinking about Catawba's line-up, this is where the fun started — and ours worlds collided. Ultimately, we landed on an APA — one of the first styles that helped the craft revolution get back on track in the 1980s and became a staple in the1990s. So we set out to come up with the recipe, Catawba procured the ingredients and the games began.
Read MoreOur friends across craft breweries have been instrumental in our start-up. And core to that is the local community that we all call home. They are the organizations in our community that carry the load of making our neighborhoods better and safer places to live. We’re one big community, and craft breweries have the potential to be strong partners for non-profit organizations. So, naturally when it came time to release our first beer, Worlds Collide, in the Catawba Tasting Room, both breweries wanted a community partner to benefit from the proceeds. The choice was simple…
